midi controller based on arduino
Inspired by the last JJOSXL releases i decided to build a compact no nonsense controller for my MPC1000. It’s “old school” midi controller with 8 faders and 5-pin din connector(not USB like 99% of the controllers made today). Built around an ATmega328 you could call it an Arduino standalone. It uses a 4051 multiplexer to allow for 8 inputs. I added a second DC power connector so it can piggy back the power(consumtion is very low) off an adapter for other small gear. It has a voltage regulator and can handle something like 7-15 volts input. Here are some pictures and a video of a song sketch and Goldbaby’s MPC60/TR-707 samples.

17th Joop Swart Masterclass

The 17th World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass is underway and my friend Pablo asked me to help out with audio-post for the lecture and interviews. This is a lecture by Antonin Kratochvil.
Here’s a link to the video:

Camerawork for Roderick Hietbrink

Artist Roderick Hietbrink wanted to pull a tree through a house and shoot it with 10 cameras. D.O.P. Jeroen Simons asked me to help shoot alongside him and 2 other camerapeople.

MAX4LIVE tempo change (ramp in session view)
i wanted a way to be able to ramp between BPM values at any given moment from within a session view.
This is a little patch that ramps the tempo to a tempo of choice at a chosen speed. Its midi mappable and should save the values within the live set. As you can see in the video its also possibly to stack a few after each other if you want multiple tempo changes in a single live-set.
Maybe there’s a better way to do this. I’ve only been using Live for a few months and have already coded a few things that were already simply implemented

First attempt at a live dub with the new(old!) soundcraft 200SR desk. running Logic and Ableton Live with some max4live progamming for the loop triggers on the behringer BCF2000.
new studio!

Its coming together nicely. There were a few hiccups integrating Bas’ Digi hardware because he runs Protools, but everything seems to be working now.
12V driven Aruino dolly prototype

I finally had time to solder all the power connectors for my dolly rig. 12V 12Ah lead sealed battery powers the stepper/driver and a 12-9V converter which in turn powers the Arduino and 350d which has a battery grip containing the AA battery holder. I simply soldered wires to the battery contacts in the holder.
Im using an XLR connector for the 12V to the stepper and cinch(RCA/phono) for the 9V connectors to Arduino and Camera. I asked a tech about connectors for power and apparently cinch have a large contact area which is good enough for the 2A that the camera can draw.

Nemo OS1.62 live arrangement
Test run with OS1.62 There’s lots of new functionality, but a few things that need sorting out. I’m really happy with the newly implemented instant page switching which is great for beats.

muzeplein timelapse
The first outdoor tryout of my DIY stepper driven dolly, controlled by an Arduino. I got the step timing wrong and its moving a bit slow. Shot with a 350d and EF 24-70 2.8L The motion was quite reasonable but i’ve tracked/stabilized it for good measure.
